Pacific Wild is delighted to welcome artist Sandra Metz of the Spirit of Wolves Studio in the Netherlands to our Friends of Pacific Wild network. Sandra is an emerging artist specializing in unique wood burned or painted portraits of wolves, bears and many other species. Sandra`s connection to wolves comes through her dog, Micah, who carries the wilderness in her genes. Micah’s father and relatives were born on Vancouver Island.

Sandra previously submitted work to the Takaya Festival held a number of years ago, and learned about Pacific Wild`s work to save wild wolves and bears in British Columbia. Sandra ships her art worldwide and you can find it on her Etsy shop, Spirit of Wolves.

Thank you, Sandra, for your passion for the lives of these wild creatures so far across the world.

Congratulations to Pacific Wild Friends of Pacific Wild Partner @whelanconstruction for their Gold win in the $15-$14M category at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association Annual Awards of Excellence. Whelan completed the CATSA Plus Conversion Project at YVR (Vancouver Airport) - a huge redesign of the security gate for Pier C.

A lot of words to say travelers through YVR have an easier time, security is improved, and the Whelan team is very good at what they do.

Whelan Construction has been a passionate supporter of Pacific Wild`s campaign to end the wolf cull since 2021 - you won`t find kinder people anywhere. Fun fact: The surname Whelan is Gaelic for `wolf cub`, a descendant from Faolán.

A heartfelt thank you to @adventureclothingvictoria in Victoria for providing giveaways to recent Pacific Wild event attendees in Victoria. This lucky winner, shown with Pacific Wild Executive Director Karen McAllister, won the draw for the Cotopaxi Allpa 25L backpack at the Carole Finn & Ian McAllister art show at the Goldfinch Gallery in Colwood.

Adventure Clothing joined the Friends of Pacific Wild network (friends.pacificwild.org) this summer, and owner Jennifer Robinson is passionate about protecting the wildlife and ecosystems that are such an international tourism draw for British Columbia.

If you`re in or visiting Victoria, you can find this sweet travel clothing, gear, and gadgets shop on Yates in downtown and know that your purchases are supporting B.C. conservation.

From a passionate wolf supporter in Sackville, NB, a poem for wolves:

THE BEGGAR`S LAMENT

Stop - put down your guns!
Let the wolves run free to be
Wild in their nature.

Let Mother Earth make decisions of
Life and Death - pitiful humans
Whose only recourse is to deal out death.

How ashamed I am to be human.
Governments of the world you can stop
The incessant cruelty to our kind
And all living creatures.

I cry out, I beg you to stop.
Put down the guns!

At a time when travel is global and growing, how we explore matters. The way visitors are invited, educated, and empowered to share responsibility for their impact is key to ensuring that places like the Great Bear Rainforest remain wild and protected.

Each year, thousands of travellers journey to British Columbia with @doetsreizen from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, drawn by its spectacular landscapes and iconic wildlife — many species that have vanished from Europe over the past two centuries.

A heartfelt thank you “Bedankt!” to the team at Doets Reizen for your incredible gift in support of conservation in the Great Bear Rainforest. Your annual commitment as a Pacific Wild partner —giving back through your B.C. coast tours and setting an example of stewardship as a for-profit travel company—gives wildlife lovers everywhere hope for a future that values more than profit alone.

We are grateful for your support—and for helping spark a deeper global commitment to coexistence with the wild.

As the snow falls and winter begins, Pacific Wild would like to thank Whelan Construction for their significant annual contribution to the campaign to end the wolf cull in British Columbia.

‘Whelan’ is Irish for ‘little wolf’, and the company—which operates out of Vancouver—is supportive of our efforts to stop the wiping out of interior wolf packs by the provincial government of B.C..

Only habitat protection and restoration will save endangered mountain caribou—the wolf cull program is not only horrifically inhumane and expensive, it is ultimately a screen to hide ongoing logging, road-building and habitat destruction that further imperils caribou, no matter how many wolves are killed each winter.

If you have been through the Vancouver Airport recently, you will likely have noticed some of Whelan’s major projects this past year: a complete rebuild of the security screening area for domestic departures—now open, bright, airy and efficient—new e-gates, and new apron drive bridges. As you’re using this greatly improved infrastructure, remember that Whelan is deeply committed to protecting B.C.’s wolf families, just like you.

Part of Whelan’s annual gift to our organization also funds major purchases on our technology wish list, such as part of the hardware and software that houses our hundreds of terabytes of photography and film assets—a critical piece of Pacific Wild’s ability to educate and engage around how wildlife is managed in B.C..

Thank you, Brian, Catherine and all of the Whelan team!
