This #FeatureFriday, we’re showcasing more imagery from Daisy. When speaking with Pacific Wild recently about the conservation issues that matter most to her in B.C. this is what she had to say…

“One of the reasons I started photographing the Great Bear Rainforest was to raise awareness of the Enbridge Pipeline project, as many other great environmental organizations were doing at the same time. This multi-year effort led to a full feature article on the issue published by BBC Wildlife Magazine in 2015. Despite B.C.’s motto ‘Beautiful B.C.’ and more than 600 regional parks around the province — giving the illusion of an untouched wilderness paradise — conservation issues are wide and varied, and they’re everywhere, from much-needed protection of the old growth-forests from logging to the need to shore up fishery regulations on wild salmon and herring stocks, to the pollution in our lakes and rivers, to the wider issue of climate change. A lot needs to be done.”

POV visuals from @susanmarieconrad // Friend of Pacific Wild, Susan Conrad is thirty three days into her journey from San Juan Islands up the B.C. coast to Alaska. Live updates of Susan’s kayak expedition are being posted to the Arc-gis story map available at the link in our bio.

Susan embarked on this journey in hopes to bring awareness to Pacific Wild's pivotal marine protection efforts, highlight the biodiversity, richness, and abundance that lives in the #GreatBearRainforest, and raise funds to support conservation efforts.

“For a short period of time, I’ll be the ears, eyes, and a voice of the GBR, bearing witness to its beauty, magic, and threats. My hope is that it will inspire and motivate others to steward the ocean.” — Susan Conrad.

A $20,000 match towards all fundraising taking place during Susan’s journey is on the table thanks to two generous lawyers. Link in bio to donate and learn more.

Photo by @brettgordo // “Out in the backcountry, we willingly take a step closer to the natural order of things. We are less invincible, more vulnerable to the elements and to the balanced predator prey dynamics of intact ecosystems. Outside of nature in our daily lives, we insulate ourselves from these dynamics, call them threats, and feel that any encroachment is an infraction on our dominance that must be addressed accordingly.”

At the link in our bio, Pacific Wild’s newest team member, @nukeharrison shares a story from a humbling trip in the mountains and reflects on the ways that wild animals are negatively framed in settler society.

Photo by @susanmarieconrad // Thanks to lawyers, Ben Wells and Josh Trumbull spearheading the #MakeLawyersPay fundraising challenge, we now have a match pool of $20,000 to dedicate towards our marine conservation efforts. Ben and Josh have thrown down the gauntlet for lawyers around the world. Legal professionals can make donations against the match or add to the match challenge!

Back in 2020, our #MakeRyanPay fundraising campaign with @vancityreynolds was one of the most successful and memorable we’ve had to date, raising $75,000 of matchable funds to further our mission and protect wildlife. This success is what inspired Ben and Josh to make lawyers pay for conservation as well. If you or someone you know is a lawyer looking to make a positive difference through philanthropy, encourage them to get involved in this matching challenge to raise funds for ocean ecosystems here in coastal British Columbia.
