“I grew up on Vancouver Island, looking in tide pools, exploring small islands in a rowboat, and watching eagles on the beach. These places felt ordinary and limitless to me when I was a kid, but now as an adult, I know that BC’s coastal ecosystems are anything but. As an artist, my work is rooted in my love for these wild places, and I want to give back to organizations like Pacific Wild, who understand our connection to the land and are working to protect this special area of the world.”

Hosted by Sea Gods Stand Up Paddleboards, this film festival celebrates paddling and aquatic exploration in its many forms from canoeing to whitewater kayaking in fresh and saltwater. A poem about old growth forests, and some striking photo-images by Donna Bindon of ancient cedars and sitka spruce to which to attach as an underscore or background for the poem which poses questions about humanity’s broken relationships with nature, and a plea for resumption of the ancient respect and honour for nature that we yet are capable of. I am retired and I don’t have an art business, but my past work includes freelance radio broadcasting with Park Radio in Banff, and I am working on a book with a co-author retired warden on the spiritual potency of the wild to help heal our world.
