Monica Gewurz’s practice is fueled by her scientific and artistic background, exploration of materials and by her creative upbringing in both Peru and Canada. For her, the natural world is more than an inspiration for her artwork. It influences the very nature of the purpose of art and how it is created. That purpose is to use art as a vehicle to highlight how humanity has changed the environment.
She uses mixed media for its capacity to reach beyond the visual, to a more tactile process. She curates combinations of materials and techniques to abstract reality, telling a story to elicit an intimate aesthetic and emotional response.
She is represented year round by Ukama Gallery in Vancouver, BC.
