Norm Hann met Ian and Karen McAllister back in the days of the Stop the Tankers campaign to protect the Great Bear Rainforest from Northern Enbridge’s planned supertanker port to ship oil out of Alberta to the East.
In 2010 Norm paddled the proposed oil tanker route, 400kms, from Kitimat to Bella Bella, called Standup4Greatbear, it brought awareness to the threat of an oil spill to the wildlife and First Nations food harvesting areas along our coastline.
Two years later he was part of the award winning film Stand, based on his SUP expedition to Haida Gwaii. Since then he formed the Standup4Greatbear Society, a non-profit that donates money back to conservation initiatives in the Great Bear Rainforest. He is also part of the Take A Stand program that delivers educational and awareness talks to elementary and high school students.
His business, Norm Hann Expeditions, is based on Vancouver Island, B.C. and offers SUP tours & wildlife trips in the Great Bear Rainforest, Broughton Archipelago, Discovery Islands, and even Belize! NHE is a licensed trainer of professional SUP guides, and sells SUP gear online.
